In the 400 years since Galileo first turned his telescope towards the sky, our capability to map, classify and understand the Universe has advanced by leaps and bounds. Our vision now extends over the entire spectrum of light from energetic gamma-rays to radio emissions. The longest exposure ever taken by the Hubble - eleven and a third days - detects objects that are four billion times fainter than can be seen by pre-Galilean detectors, our eyes. I will lead you on a tour of the rich and stunningly beautiful universe in which we live. Lecture and multi-media-presentation in English.
